Budget Model Redesign Project

Why is WVU looking to develop and implement a new budget model?

The Budget Model Redesign project seeks to roll out a new budget model at WVU that defines cost and revenue allocation aligned with the institution's strategic objectives and budget management philosophy. The redesigned budget model is intended to improve institutional transparency, decision-making and alignment around the University's strategic goals.

When will WVU’s redesigned budget model be deployed?

The new budget model will be implemented completely by July 1, 2024 (FY2025), but budget preparation activities will begin in Fall 2023. View the FY2024 Financial Plan.


Chart of Accounts Project

What is the purpose of the Chart of Accounts project?

The goal of the Chart of Accounts project is to create a new financial chart of accounts structure that effectively addresses the reporting and operational needs of WVU. The updated chart of accounts should simplify reporting processes, enhance data analysis capabilities and support efficient business processes.

When is this project expected to be completed?

The Chart of Accounts project kicked off in February 2022, and design and validation efforts were completed in July 2022. Additional work to incorporate the new prototype into the ERP design will begin in January 2023.


ERP RFP Creation and Evaluation Project

What is an “ERP?”

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) refers to a type of software system that organizations use to integrate and manage their activities across multiple areas (e.g., finance, human resources and student information systems).

What ERP platforms currently exist at WVU?

WVU currently uses the Oracle Financials (MAP) and Banner (Ellucian) platforms.

What is an “RFP?”

RFP is an acronym for “request for proposal.” This document allows an organization to receive and review vendor proposals for a particular project.

Who was included in the ERP RFP education sessions?

Stakeholders representing the key functional and technical groups who engage with our current ERPs were invited to various education sessions based on the respective areas they represent.

What are “Signature Requirements?”

Signature requirements refer to requirements unique to WVU that are above and beyond baseline functionality within an ERP.

Who will be part of the evaluation committee for the RFP?

While many functional and technical stakeholders across campus were invited to provide input, to ensure a timely review process, the RFP selection committee was a smaller group of key leads from the functional and technical stakeholders.


IT Governance Reboot Project

What is an “IT governance model?”

In general terms, an IT governance model is a formal framework that provides a structure for organizations to ensure that technology investments support the institution’s goals and objectives.

Where can I view information on WVU’s IT governance model?

The University will be launching a website in the near future that outlines WVU’s enterprise-wide IT governance model.


Information Security Strategy Project

What is the purpose of the Information Security Strategy project?

The Information Security Strategy project seeks to manage the institution’s risk by complying with regulatory requirements and taking a risk-based approach to defending, detecting and responding to threats.

When is this project expected to be completed?

The project was completed in July 2022 with the review and refinement of the future-state roadmap with leadership and key stakeholders.


Data Management and Governance Project

What is a "data trustee?"

A data trustee is the senior-most officer who is accountable for Data Governance outcomes for their specific domain(s) of data.

What is a "data steward?"

A data steward is someone who defines, implements and enforces data management policies and procedures within their specific domain. This person is responsible for the Data Governance tasks required to achieve identified outcomes and is accountable for who has access to information assets within their functional areas.

What is a "data custodian?"

A data custodian is the person responsible for the quality of a defined dataset on a day-to-day basis. This person has technical control over a data asset and carries out the actual governance work. They must be a subject matter expert (SME) in their respective process, function or domain.
