Workday Training Program
Preparing WVU for Workday
To support a successful transition to Workday, WVU is developing a comprehensive, role-based training program that will help employees build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed before Workday goes live.
Training efforts are planned to support employee readiness, minimize disruption, and encourage the successful adoption of Workday at WVU.
Role-Based Learning
All employees will receive foundational learning opportunities that introduce Workday concepts, with additional training opportunities designed to stack and build knowledge progressively based on a worker’s security roles and responsibilities:
Foundational Training
Foundational courses introduce users to Workday basics, including navigation, search functionality, reporting, mobile access, and employee self-service tools. These learning resources are intended for the broad WVU community and help users become comfortable working within the system.
General Training
General training focuses on common business processes used by employees and managers, including time tracking, absence management, purchasing, expenses, benefits, and other everyday activities.
Specialized Training
Specialized training is designed for users who perform advanced Human Capital Management or Finance functions. These learning opportunities provide deeper instruction on role-specific processes, approvals, reporting, recruiting, budgeting, grants management, procurement, and other operational responsibilities.
What to Expect
WVU will provide virtual training for all employees using Workday. Course content will be delivered in the following ways:
- Webinars
- Virtual Instructor-Led Training (ILT)
- Self-paced eLearning (also called computer-based training, or CBT)
- Recorded demonstrations and videos
- Job aids, quick reference guides, and other written materials
- Office hours and post-training support resources
Training schedules and role-specific requirements will be communicated closer to delivery. Training is expected to begin in March 2027, with Workday go-live slated for July 2027.
